"Project Planning and Project Management";
are the two success factors to completing a project on time and within budget. It is vital
that, before the project commences, where many individuals are involved, defining and agreeing
on the scope of the project and defining the role of the project manager, area of responsibilities
and accountability are absolutely vital to the project success. By contracting WESTEK
as your project manager, the organization's staff is able to remain focused on their primary
roles.
The role of the project manager is to
understand the project objectives, milestones, costs, completion timetable, and business
risks. This will include being able to manage variances to the project, in a
proactive manner, and to keep the implementation on schedule. The project manager will
be the single point of contact, and will have authority, control, and accountability
for agreed upon aspects of the project to ensure that the project is successfully completed.
The frequency and methods of communication
should be discussed, as should the criteria for successful completion of the project.
Regular reporting and reviews will ensure that all interested parties are fully informed
of the project's progress. As the criteria for completion of the project are met, the
customer signs off on the project. If required, the project manager can recommend any
ongoing support requirements for the new infrastructure.
